The Duke And Duchess Of Cambridge Visit Poland - Day 2

GDANSK, POLAND - JULY 18: Prince William, Duke of Cambridge and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge meet former prisoners of the Stutthof concentration camp, Manfred Goldberg (C, R) and Zigi Shpper (C, L) as they visit the former Nazi German concentration camp during an official visit to Poland and Germany on July 18, 2017 near Gdansk, Poland. I didn't download a lot of photos from Stutthof, because it seemed inappropriate for me to be like "LET'S TALK ABOUT THIS OUTFIT!!!" at such an important and serious engagement. If you read the story in The Express that I linked to in the intro, through, you can see many of them; both Wills and Kate seem like they were very moved by this part of the day, as I would hope anyone would be. Here, William and Kate are talking to Manfred Goldberg and Zigi Shipper, former prisoners at the camp. (The Guardian profiled Mr Shipper a few years ago, and I also recommend that piece.)

The next bit on the docket involved eating some pierogis -- for some reason I have no photos of the pierogi-eating, which seems unfair -- and a trip to the Gdansk Shakespeare Theatre. Because you can see the crowd in the background here, this seems like a good point to note that they seem to be drawing MEGA CROWDS in Poland. This also feels like a good time for me to gently transition to discussing what Kate is wearing..

It's Erdem, so of course I like it. This trip, so far, has been much more fashion-forward than usual, and it's a fun change. Maybe cutting her hair effected some kind of Samson-like sartorial change and shook up her wardrobe a bit. (Also: the open-toed sandals today are the same ones she wore to Wimbledon on Sunday. The toes are officially out, and it's about time.)

Then she and William changed into this. My god, you guys! I know you get sassy when you're out of the country, but this was unexpected.

Getting some great ideas for the next big Buckingham Palace Balcony Event.

I feel honor-bound to also give Wills credit for his own subtle pattern, in form of his polka-dotted tie. Here, they're chatting with former president and Nobel Peace Prize winner Lech Wałęsa, at the European Solidarity Center, which, per its Wikipedia page, is "devoted to the history of Solidarity, the Polish trade union and civil resistance movement, and other opposition movements of Communist Eastern Europe." (Solidarity was founded by Wałęsa.)

Here, they are about to place roses at the Monument to Fallen Shipyard Workers, which honored those who died during the suppression of a strike, in 1970. Wikipedia tells me that it "is the first monument to the victims of communist oppression to be erected in a communist country."

Not to undercut the relative seriousness of this moment, but also, it's nice that Poland's wind is so loving to Kate's hair.

This was just a good photo. As ever, Royal Tour Photogs, please keep up the good work.
