LONDON, ENGLAND - APRIL 05: Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry attend the Service of Hope at Westminster Abbey on April 5,2017 in London, United Kingdom. The multi-faith Service of Hope was held for the four people killed when Khalid Masood committed an act of terror in Westminster on Wednesday March 22\. Survivors, bereaved families and members of the emergency services joined The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince Harry, the Home Secretary, Amber Rudd and London Mayor, Sadiq Khan, in the congregation. This is obviously a serious and somber event, and I think everyone looks appropriate for the occasion. Given the last time Kate wrote this coat, I tend to think of it as her Serious Coat That Still Allows People To Pick Her Out In a Crowd.

Informative Caption tells us that Wills "lays a wreath accompanied by Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry during the Service of Hope at Westminster Abbey....The multi-faith Service of Hope was held for the four people killed when Khalid Masood committed an act of terror in Westminster on Wednesday March 22\. (William also gave the second reading during the service. It was the parable of the Good Samaritan.)

Here's this look in action. Kate ALWAYS wears this black dress under her coats, and I like to entertain myself by imagining what the rest of it looks like. I imagine it's a very dull tank dress, as it's basically a layering too, but in my mind, the bodice is covered in flames.

I did not want to deny you Prince Harry; I also did not want to deny you a look at these ecclesiastical robes. I know I say this anytime anyone attends a church service, but they are really beautiful

Wills and Harry look extremely appropriate, but I have to wonder if they looked at each other when they got ready to leave the house and noted that they are wearing EXACTLY the same thing. There are few appropriate options for men at an event like this one, and I am not at all dinging them for it -- this photo just really made it clear how similarly they are outfitted today. I do wonder if they don't (in general, not here) splash out more often with their suitery because it reminds them of their father, one of the world's best pocket square/tie/shirt conductors.

It seems I really wanted you to see this event from all angles.

Speaking of angles, here's a better look at Kate's hat/chignon situation. I think the hair is lovely -- the next slide gives you a look at the back of it -- but I have never been a fan of this hat. To me it looks like a little ceramic dish that lives on your dresser, and into which you put your rings. Her hair, however, manages to toe the line of Serious and Pretty, however, and that's no easy task.

[Wills, Kate, and Harry Attend Service of HopeToday's event was an inter-faith memorial at Westminster Abbey that honored the victims of the recent terror attack in London; The Telegraph has a good story about the event itself. Kate's hat and coat are a re-wear -- which seems appropriate; now is not the time to launch a whole new look -- and if the coat looks familiar, the last time you saw it was at the Somme centenary commemorations in France. We've got, as always, bits and pieces from social media coverage as well.
