Photo: Tom Weller/dpa (Photo by Tom Weller/picture alliance via Getty Images) Madonna opened the show in the bowels of the stadium; I wonder if that was pre-recorded so that all she had to do on the day was walk out of the tunnel and sing one refrain. She did "Music," because the lyrics are "Music makes the people come together," and halftime show organizers at global events are big on unity. It was, you know, fine. Considering she's MADONNA, I actually thought she felt shockingly beside-the-point. ## BTS ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2026/07/GettyImages-2286195336-1784507039.jpg) 19 July 2026, United States, East Rutherford: Soccer, Men's, 2026 World Cup, Final, Spain vs. Argentina, New York-New Jersey Stadium in East Rutherford. The South Korean K-pop band BTS will perform during the halftime show at the World Cup final. Photo: Tom Weller/dpa (Photo by Tom Weller/picture alliance via Getty Images) I don't really listen to BTS, but "Dynamite" Is an absolute banger, and it's always nice to see them performing together, especially after their long military break. ## Gustavo Dudamel ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2026/07/GettyImages-2286801442-1784507256.jpg) EAST RUTHERFORD, NEW JERSEY - JULY 19: Gustavo Dudamel of the New York Philharmonic and Animal of The Muppets perform during FIFA World Cup 2026™ Topps Final Halftime Show at New York New Jersey Stadium on July 19, 2026 in East Rutherford, New Jersey. (Photo by Kevin Mazur/Kevin Mazur/Getty Images for Global Citizen) Our departing LA Phil conductor got to hang with the Muppets. I am jealous! (They did bits of "Seven Nation Army" and then the Norway row.) ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2026/07/GettyImages-2286801637-1784507273.jpg) EAST RUTHERFORD, NEW JERSEY - JULY 19: The Muppets perform during FIFA World Cup 2026™ Topps Final Halftime Show at New York New Jersey Stadium on July 19, 2026 in East Rutherford, New Jersey. (Photo by Noam Galai/Getty Images for Global Citizen) I gather there are some folks who find the Muppets cringe, or underwhelming? WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE. The Muppets always make my heart sing. ## Jason Sudeikis ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2026/07/GettyImages-2286800393-1784507244.jpg) EAST RUTHERFORD, NEW JERSEY - JULY 19: Jason Sudeikis as Ted Lasso performs during FIFA World Cup 2026™ Topps Final Halftime Show at New York New Jersey Stadium on July 19, 2026 in East Rutherford, New Jersey. (Photo by Noam Galai/Getty Images for Global Citizen) For some reason, presumably a big check from Apple, they had Jason and Brendan Hunt come out as their Ted Lasso characters to give Justin Bieber a pep talk? Was THAT worth the cash? ## Justin Bieber ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2026/07/GettyImages-2286810096-1784507290.jpg) EAST RUTHERFORD, NEW JERSEY - JULY 19: Justin Bieber performs during FIFA World Cup 2026™ Topps Final Halftime Show at New York New Jersey Stadium on July 19, 2026 in East Rutherford, New Jersey. (Photo by Jamie McCarthy/Getty Images for Global Citizen) Bieber came out and sang a very slow song, and his voice was lovely -- it was the most live anyone sounded, almost as if he was trying to prove something -- but my god it killed the mood. This thing didn't need to bring it down. ## Shakira ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2026/07/GettyImages-2286811445-1784507303.jpg) EAST RUTHERFORD, NEW JERSEY - JULY 19: Shakira performs during FIFA World Cup 2026™ Topps Final Halftime Show at New York New Jersey Stadium on July 19, 2026 in East Rutherford, New Jersey. (Photo by Tullio Puglia - FIFA/FIFA via Getty Images) And then we got Chris, who I think was the creative director of this whole thing, singing with children and pointing. Sounds right. ## Miss Piggy, Kermit, etc ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2026/07/GettyImages-2286796960-1784521526.jpg) EAST RUTHERFORD, NEW JERSEY - JULY 19: Miss Piggy, Kermit the Frog, the Muppets, Cookie Monster and Elmo perform during the Topps Final Halftime Show in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Final match between Spain and Argentina at New York New Jersey Stadium on July 19, 2026 in East Rutherford, New Jersey. (Photo by Siegfried Anthony/Variety via Getty Images) Sure! I mean, with James Harden, the beard is always going to be the star. ## Jameis Winston ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2026/07/GettyImages-2286154512-1784506973.jpg) Jameis Winston at the FIFA World Cup 2026 Final Red Carpet held at the New York New Jersey Stadium on July 19, 2026 in East Rutherford, New Jersey. This works. ## Alejandra Gere and Richard Gere ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2026/07/GettyImages-2286162710-1784506985.jpg) Alejandra Gere and Richard Gere at the FIFA World Cup 2026 Final Red Carpet held at the New York New Jersey Stadium on July 19, 2026 in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Or I guess that she has a shirt on under her absurdly large denim jacket. ## Ilia Malinin ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2026/07/GettyImages-2286768734-1784507059.jpg) EAST RUTHERFORD, NEW JERSEY - JULY 19: Ilia Malinin attends the FIFA Gold Carpet before the FIFA World Cup 2026 Final match between Spain and Argentina at New York New Jersey Stadium on July 19, 2026 in East Rutherford, New Jersey. (Photo by Michael Loccisano/Getty Images) That kid is going to learn the Sometimes Y vowel rule very soon. He is so cute. Little kids in jerseys are the best. ## Jaxson Dart ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2026/07/GettyImages-2286780589-1784507107.jpg) EAST RUTHERFORD, NEW JERSEY - JULY 19: Jaxson Dart attends the FIFA Gold Carpet before the FIFA World Cup 2026 Final match between Spain and Argentina at New York New Jersey Stadium on July 19, 2026 in East Rutherford, New Jersey. (Photo by Arturo Holmes - FIFA/FIFA via Getty Images) The mesh shoes are only about a step above flip flops for me, but otherwise this also all makes sense for watching sports. ## Chloe Malle ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2026/07/GettyImages-2286781277-1784507135.jpg) EAST RUTHERFORD, NEW JERSEY - JULY 19: Chloe Malle attends the FIFA Gold Carpet before the FIFA World Cup 2026 Final match between Spain and Argentina at New York New Jersey Stadium on July 19, 2026 in East Rutherford, New Jersey. (Photo by Arturo Holmes - FIFA/FIFA via Getty Images) But for real, Chloe, you want THAT much of your foot in the vicinity of a stadium floor? I guess when you have a car and probably box seats, you don't care. But I've Seen Things in stadiums. No thanks. ## Victor Wembanyama ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2026/07/GettyImages-2286781315-1784507147.jpg) EAST RUTHERFORD, NEW JERSEY - JULY 19: Victor Wembanyama attends the FIFA Gold Carpet before the FIFA World Cup 2026 Final match between Spain and Argentina at New York New Jersey Stadium on July 19, 2026 in East Rutherford, New Jersey. (Photo by Jamie McCarthy/Getty Images for Global Citizen) This is such a dumb, obviously thing to say, but HE'S SO TALL. I appreciate him repping his home country, also. He should've gone to the third-place game the day before; way more fun. ## Javier Bardem ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2026/07/GettyImages-2286783228-1784507159.jpg) EAST RUTHERFORD, NEW JERSEY - JULY 19: Javier Bardem attends the FIFA Gold Carpet before the FIFA World Cup 2026 Final match between Spain and Argentina at New York New Jersey Stadium on July 19, 2026 in East Rutherford, New Jersey. (Photo by Kevin Mazur/Getty Images for Global Citizen) Lucy presumably did NOT have as nice a time. (The light and the angle are weird here but it's definitely Luciana; I saw a photo of her later without the sunnies.) But this is all very normal sports attire, too, unlike... ## Julia Garner ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2026/07/GettyImages-2286783252-1784507174.jpg) EAST RUTHERFORD, NEW JERSEY - JULY 19: Julia Garner attends the FIFA Gold Carpet before the FIFA World Cup 2026 Final match between Spain and Argentina at New York New Jersey Stadium on July 19, 2026 in East Rutherford, New Jersey. (Photo by Kevin Mazur/Getty Images for Global Citizen) ... mesh peep-toe heels. Julia also quietly slid her divorce news in the weekend of the World Cup finals. Except then GOING to the WC finals, and giving people an excuse to bring it up, kind of undercuts that move. ## Rob Gronkowski and Camille Kostek ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2026/07/GettyImages-2286789523-1784507198.jpg) EAST RUTHERFORD, NEW JERSEY - JULY 19: (L-R) Rob Gronkowski and Camille Kostek attend the FIFA Gold Carpet before the FIFA World Cup 2026 Final match between Spain and Argentina at New York New Jersey Stadium on July 19, 2026 in East Rutherford, New Jersey. (Photo by Arturo Holmes - FIFA/FIFA via Getty Images) A longline bra OVER a jersey? She is adorable but that is crazy. It is NOT Inside-Out Day.
