(Photo by Chris Brunskill/Fantasista/Getty Images) These two performed at the very first match, in Mexico, and no, neither of them is secretly part-Mexican. But South Korea played the game right after Mexico's opener, and Ejae represented that both in body and in garment -- the designer described the color and style influences as uniquely Korean. She looks gorgeous. ## Salma Hayek in Gucci ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2026/06/GettyImages-2280490544-1781493979.jpg) MEXICO CITY, MEXICO - JUNE 11: Salma Hayek attends the Opening Ceremony for the FIFA World Cup 2026 Group A match between Mexico and South Africa at Mexico City Stadium on June 11, 2026 in Mexico City, Mexico. (Photo by Sebastian Frej/Getty Images) Is it EVEN POSSIBLE she was not sweltering in this? Was it unseasonably cool in Mexico? The Gucci bow is too dopey for me, also, but the blouse is pretty and the red (and touches of green and white) echo the colors of her flag, so why not. ## J Balvin ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2026/06/GettyImages-2281124655-1781494025.jpg) MEXICO CITY, MEXICO - JUNE 11: J Balvin performs during the Opening Ceremony ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026 Group A match between Mexico and South Africa at Mexico City Stadium on June 11, 2026 in Mexico City, Mexico. (Photo by Hector Vivas - FIFA/FIFA via Getty Images) He is Colombian, and they don't seem to be playing in Mexico, so maybe that's why his color scheme kinda mixes their flags together? Mexico itself got a bit overlooked in the celebrity performer category, perhaps. ## Shakira ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2026/06/GettyImages-2281293587-1781494045.jpg) MEXICO CITY, MEXICO - JUNE 11: Shakira performs during the Opening Ceremony before the FIFA World Cup 2026 Group A match between Mexico and South Africa at Mexico City Stadium on June 11, 2026 in Mexico City, Mexico. (Photo by Ryan Pierse - FIFA/FIFA via Getty Images) She's Colombian also. She didn't really bother with a theme. She's JUST wearing stuff that was hanging on someone's clothesline. Possibly still ON the clothesline. ## Tyla ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2026/06/GettyImages-2280464826-1781493962.jpg) Mexico City, Mexico - June 11: South African singer Tyla performing their national anthem during the FIFA World Cup 2026 Group A match between Mexico and South Africa at Mexico City Stadium on June 11, 2026 in Mexico City, Mexico. (Photo by Torbjorn Tande/DeFodi Images/DeFodi via Getty Images) She's from South Africa, a.k.a. Mexico's opponent, so she got to sing the anthem. I wish we had a front-facing photo of it, because she seems to look great. ## Tyla ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2026/06/GettyImages-2281303266-1781494057.jpg) LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA - JUNE 12: Tyla performs during the Opening Ceremony before the FIFA World Cup 2026 Group D match between USA and Paraguay at Los Angeles Stadium on June 12, 2026 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo by Alex Livesey - FIFA/FIFA via Getty Images) Tyla ALSO performed at the USA/Paraguay match. She was busy! Too busy to get clothes that fit so she borrowed her pants from a nearby circus. ## Katy Perry ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2026/06/GettyImages-2280903603-1781494010.jpg) Singer Katy Perry performs before the group D match between the United States and Paraguay at the 2026 FIFA World Cup at Los Angeles Stadium in Los Angeles, the United States, June 12, 2026\. (Photo by Mao Siqian/Xinhua via Getty Images) Apparently, when little Tius Luka here was 5, he recorded part of Katy Perry's "Wonder." She flew him out now that he's 10 and sang it with him at the World Cup. She's not the most intriguing or inspiring choice for this, but that's a very sweet gesture. He must have been so excited to perform with a tinsel tree! ## Anitta ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2026/06/GettyImages-2281314039-1781494075.jpg) LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA - JUNE 12: Anitta performs during the Opening Ceremony before the FIFA World Cup 2026 Group D match between USA and Paraguay at Los Angeles Stadium on June 12, 2026 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo by Sarah Stier - FIFA/FIFA via Getty Images) Nothing says The Beautiful Game like chaps! ## Lisa ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2026/06/GettyImages-2281473478-1781494125.jpg) LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA - JUNE 12: Lisa from Blackpink prior to the FIFA World Cup 2026 Group D match between USA and Paraguay at Los Angeles Stadium on June 12, 2026 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo by Shaun Clark/ISI Photos/ISI Photos via Getty Images) She's the first Thai artist to perform at the World Cup opening ceremony. They also said she was the first female K-Pop star to perform "at the event," but unless they literally meant at an opening ceremony in the USA, wouldn't that have been EJAE from a day before? Exciting all around, regardless. ## Alanis ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2026/06/GettyImages-2281371287-1781494094.jpg) TORONTO, CANADA - JUNE 12: Alanis Morissette performs the canadian national anthem 'O Canada' during the Opening Ceremony before the FIFA World Cup 2026 Group B match between Canada and Bosnia and Herzegovina at Toronto Stadium on June 12, 2026 in Toronto, Canada. (Photo by Jean Catuffe/Getty Images) Naturally, Alanis did "O Canada" at their opening game. She did not go in for fancy costumes. I kind of wish she'd worn the Heated Rivalry fleece, but then again... it's summer; talk about being heated. ## Alessia Cara ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2026/06/GettyImages-2281374915-1781494110.jpg) TORONTO, ONTARIO - JUNE 12: Alessia Cara performs during the Opening Ceremony before the FIFA World Cup 2026 Group B match between Canada and Bosnia and Herzegovina at Toronto Stadium on June 12, 2026 in Toronto, Ontario. (Photo by Alex Pantling - FIFA/FIFA via Getty Images) This also looks wildly hot, but at least she can raise and lower her pant legs like curtains.
