Allison Williams in Giambattista Valli

For me, this is the style that Fan Bingbing's Tony Ward did so much better. The central dress just isn't striking enough for me to carry the whole look -- it looks heavy and thick and the fuzz at the bottom is wonky. Appreciate the swing, though.

Wrong event for this, pal. (She triumphed in the court of public opinion over Hugh Grant, though, and that is an important win.)

Florence Pugh in Valentino

This one... we got a bit into the "I like the idea; it'd be good if it were another color and sat higher and not bike shorts" territory, and at the end of the day, it WAS all of those things. It could have been so different, Florence!

Halle Berry in Tamara Ralph

This will not win, but it's in here because I feel like everything is just... doing too much. As many of you noted in the comments, she is HALLE BERRY. She does not need quite so much happening, especially not when it's fighting her essential Halle Berryness.

Jamie Lee Curtis in D&G

This would be perfectly fine, except for the exterior boning, which stabbed up at her boobs the whole time she was on TV accepting her Oscar. It's just visually discordant, and worse, . It's not a good enough dress to give out twice, much less AT THE SAME EVENT (they could not have foreseen JLC would skip the Vanity Fair party).

I just cannot stop giggling, and she might not mind that -- she might even giggle with me -- but at the end of the day, this is just such an eyesore of a dress.

Laverne Cox in Vera Wang

I just realized I typed out the same joke on this slide that I wrote in the original slideshow. Well done, H. The point stands: If this is a finished dress from Vera Wang's gang, then the unfinished ones must be just stuff on a table.

Melissa McCarthy in Christian Siriano

I think the mixed materials here make it look like the reds don't quiiiiite match, in a way that's distracting? This overwhelms her a bit -- I think either the top or the bottom but perhaps not together. Or, as Jessica suggested, maybe a belt or some other kind of proper contrast.

Mindy Kaling in Vera Wang

Mindy politely noted on her Instagram that Vera made her two gowns in two colors because *Vera* decided it made a great artistic statement. That's probably code for, "I don't know you guys, but I can't tell her to buzz off." She probably, sadly, should have -- with both of them. It didn't work any better in black.

Rooney Mara in McQueen

This SHOULD feel delicate, but reads a bit drab.

Just... messy.
