Today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day in the United States, a [holiday which has also been officially designated as a national Day of Service since 1994](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin%5FLuther%5FKing%5FJr.%5FDay?ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io#King%5FDay%5Fof%5FService). To quote the folks [over at Americorps](https://americorps.gov/newsroom/events/mlk-day?ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io), “\[o\]bserved each year on the third Monday in January as ‘a day on, not a day off,’ MLK Day is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities.” Last year, I noted that the day would look very different than usual, given the pandemic, and of course... here we still are in a pandemic. But I suspect we've all adapted to these circumstances somewhat over the year, and certainly our communities are more in need of help than ever. So as we did last year, I thought today might be a welcome opportunity for folks to share what they’re doing (or have done in the past/plan to do in the future) to volunteer in their communities — not only today, but in general. Thank you for what you do! We will resume posting as normal tomorrow.
