Zoe Saldana and Selena Gomez are in Cannes promoting *Emilia Perez*, a "transgender cartel musical," per one of the reviews, which seem to be either [glowing](https://www.msn.com/en-us/movies/reviews/emilia-p%C3%A9rez-review-leading-lady-karla-sof%C3%ADa-gasc%C3%B3n-electrifies-in-jacques-audiards-mexican-redemption-musical/ar-BB1mD0v2?ocid=BingNewsSerp&ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io) or unimpressed. Zoe plays a lawyer helping a drug lord transition and disappear into that new life, and Selena is the cartel chief's ex-wife. The lead actress, Karla Sofia Gascon, is trans herself and apparently does play the character pre-transition as well, which must have been emotionally challenging. The project sounds audacious at the very least? Maybe Zoe's dress can be looked at as... a metaphor? For being bound to something that's holding you back??? Am I being generous? Maybe.
