Fugs & Pieces, October 2, 2026

Happy October! It's hot as hell here, but we've got loads of fun sports to watch this weekend at my house: college football! NFL games! The baseball playoffs! I'm excited to do some chilling out in my living room. Hope you have fun plans, whatever they may be.

As a bit of housekeeping: If you've gotten any of those scammy ad-takeovers on the site lately, we've implemented some changes that ought to stop those going forward, thank god. Thank you for your patience while we worked on that. I know it was INCREDIBLY ANNOYING.

At Drinks With Broads this week, we watched the VMAs so you don't have to! And we explored TV show Christmas albums of yore -- some of them are WEIRD -- and watched The Love Hypothesis with a more murder-y POV than one might expect.

Here at GFY, I rounded up items with GOURDS! And also Fug Nation's best-sellers from September. The best-selling items from this past week were the Eby relief bra! (We've got a lot of bra content this week.) This skirt! And then also THIS skirt! We're all into skirts right now. The Old Navy NFL collection has also been widely popular -- it IS really cute.

Speaking of: Did you know Old Navy also just launched a collaboration with Altuzarra?! It's honestly really good, at least as far as I can tell from looking at pics. This parka is great; I LOVE this plaid overcoat; this bomber jacket is great; and I bought this Fair Isle sweater and I'm going to try these pants even though I think I might be too short for them.

If you missed any of the VMAs red carpet, you can review it all here.

These journalists do us proud: How Student Journalists Broke the ‘Cornell Seven’ Case. This entire thing is appalling, enraging, and profoundly upsetting and these tenacious students have done real work to uncover the truth.

At Elle: Cornell Didn’t Just Fail One Woman. It Failed Everyone Watching.

This is insane, what are we doing here? Greta Garbo Would Hate the AI Version of Her Being Used to Sell Ball Bearings. Yes, ball bearings. Come on.

This man figured out a way for traffic on the 101 to literally make music. THIS is what the internet is for.

I love reading about whomever got a MacArthur Genius Grant every year.

Hooray for librarians! At the NYT: "We asked dozens of librarians about America’s libraries — what they provide, what they need to survive."

Really good piece about the new A Different World, and the state of creative criticism as a whole.

PSA: Per The Ringer, "Vermont is the only state that has never produced an NBA player, but its basketball culture is alive and … well, it’s alive."

Boden just launched a bunch of good new pieces. This skirt is SO GOOD and this coat is great.

Anne Hathaway is on a full-on charm offensive right now, and it's been very fun.

We have a new Fat Bear Week Winner!!!

He's been OVER IT for a while and I can't blame him: Jacob Elordi in Paris Paparazzi Confrontation While Walking Kendall Jenner Back to Their Hotel.

"I'm sure it is," I snorted at this headline: Will Arnett, 56, says new romance with 28-year-old girlfriend is 'going really well'

PSA: Dr. Brandt is running a deal with a very good gift with purchase: Add one full-sized product to your shopping cart, and use code GRADITUDE2026 to get a huge bundle of other products for $169 (the retail price is nearly $700), including their eye bag cream, which I use on the daily. This seems like a good time for me to re-up my firming neck cream supply. (The Oxygen Facial has also been a classic since like...the late 1990s.) Anyway, if you like a GWP, this is a good one, especially if you're a Dr Brandt devotee.

We love packing content! This is a good piece about packing light at The Souvenirist. (Though I will never pack truly light.)

What a great performance from Queen Celine!

The wallpaper in this place is so good.

This little square vanity case is so Grace-Kelly-in-Rear-Window. (It's spendy....but not Mark Cross spendy. I AM buying that Mark Cross bag when I win the Lotto, though. You know how they say, "there will be signs"? That's the sign that I've secretly won a vast amount of money.)

This is a good read: I’m the Mom in That Viral Giants Clip. Let Me Tell You About My Husband. (Thank you to the Fug National who sent this in!)

Always interesting reading at Evil Witches: "Dump your husbands and be gay"

I know it's only October but it's time to start thinking about this: What is your ultimate Thanksgiving vegetable dish?

FYI: Harper Wilde is running a bra sale this week -- their underwire bras in beige and black are marked down to $30 with code BRA30. I really like their tee shirt bra and $30 is an excellent price for a bra in general.
