"Madly original," this cover proclaims of Julia Garner, while styling her in a photo where she looks less herself than a Madonna-Marilyn hybrid. And at the risk of beating a tired old drum, there's nothing original about smoking, either. Nor is it edgy, or cool, or brave, or bold, or glamorous. Frankly I think people look like total posers and that it's ridiculous that Elle is playing into this trend. This shoot is barely a period piece -- it maybe has occasional vibes -- and it doesn't need to sex up a cancer stick.
