Rama Duwaji doesn't seem to do a ton of events with her husband, who happens to be the mayor of New York City. I only learned she's an animator, illustrator, and ceramicist when I read about her for this piece. The Knicks's victory parade is one hell of a high-profile moment for the city's new(ish) First Lady, and as a young artist and also a fan (either by profession now or by existing passion), it tracks that she'd want to get a little creative. Enter Miss Claire Sullivan, a designer who made a Knicks frock out of upcycled merch before Game 5, and then wore her creation to celebrate the night they won. She pulled together a bespoke version for Rama comprised of bootleg tees, which is cheeky and clever, and hey, it uses up at least three of what I'm sure are mounds of unpurchased shirts. It feels like the WAY the tees were deployed could have been a little more careful, but maybe this was an eleventh hour impulse? At least it's a bold and joyful choice, and it'll probably end up in a museum someday. Might as well just ship it to the Met and let them store it.
