Is Saint Laurent Preparing For a Change at the Top?

Anthony Vaccarello hasn't said he's leaving Saint Laurent, but after 10 years, this show feels like something of a mic drop: Almost the entire collection is gold (or bronze), and the show notes had a quote that read, “A light shines all the more brightly because we know it cannot be held. What passes sometimes leaves more light than what remains.” And of course, as we know, nothing gold can stay.

I love a metallic, but this is almost too much -- from the set to the clothes, it's all SO shiny that nothing stands out enough. Besides which, the first 13 slides are all a variation on the same coat or the same suit; I don't have a single suggestion until we get to No. 14. And even after that, the dresses are... cohesive, yes, but bordering on repetitive. What is the point, other than to indulge himself? It's an expensive ego stroke. I guess if he's got one foot out the door, he's gonna burn through that budget before he slams it.
